Selling Green Pearls
Under the farmers’ great care, the green pearls were finally ready to go on the stage and meet the customers. In order to keep the high quality, they had to be carefully examined and categorized according to their sizes and colors after being picked. Here is our observation of the whole process:
1. Categorizing and bagging after fruit picking:
2. Marketing:
Mr. Xiao told us that besides selling guavas in traditional markets, he also sold them online. “That’s the merit of modern technology,” he said. Having online shop helped him gain reputation and popularity. For buyerswho lived in places far away, Mr. Xiao provided home delivery service. He also said that his old customers often ordered guavas from him.
Comments:
Growing guava trees is not an easy job, nor is the preparation for sales. A guava farmer has to know not only a thing or two about guavas but also marketing strategies. Today, marketing is not that simple as it used to be. One has to learn how to use computers to promote their products. Indeed, it is not easy to be a successful farmer these days!
The guavas we see in the markets are all grown under farmers’ labors and great efforts, for they have to pick them, select them, and pack them carefully. So, we have to cherish each guava we have, no matter it is pretty or not, sweet or not.
